A University of Minnesota leader could soon be moving his 15 years of community development expertise from campus to Minneapolis City Hall, a shift that he said will foster a stronger bond between the two institutions.
It came to my attention this week through the Old North Minneapolis Facebook page that Ascension church wants to demolish a property they own at 1707 Bryant Avenue North. As one can see from the photos, this house is in wonderful shape. Even if some work is needed, I have little doubt that the place could be successfully rehabbed. Minneapolis is hot! The Metropolitan Council recently noted that we popped back up above 400,000 residents after adding almost 9,000 people between 2012 and 2013. The area along the Midtown Greenway has been completely transformed in the past decade–eleven separate projects, ten of which are residential, have been built along its Uptown stretch since 2004. 26 community members were able to attend the June Land Use & Housing Committee meeting, which primarily including a presentation and feedback collection for developer Wellington Management’s plan to build a four story apartment building along Hiawatha Ave.
