My daughter is one of those uber-healthy girls who runs and does yoga and is never without a snack sack of veggies. She eats spinach for breakfast, carrots for lunch, and kale for dinner, claiming all the while to love her mostly vegan diet. Continue Reading
Expectations were modest when the Little Mekong Night Market launched earlier this summer in St. Paul.It was the first year for the open-air street festival, so organizers expected a small turnout for each of the four events — “a few hundred people per night market,” said Va-Megn Thoj, executive director of the Asian Economic Development Association.Consider those expectations shattered.Instead of a couple hundred people each night, a couple thousand have shown up. It’s the only place to go when you need cleaning supplies, diapers, cereal, aspirin, antihistamine, shampoo, deodorant, bandages, sunscreen, canned tuna, and even dental floss. But, even if you don’t work at the fair, if you’re one of the nearly two million people who attend only as a visitor, you’ve probably seen the signs for the store. You may have thought the place was off limits to sightseers. Continue Reading
