Everyone knows someone who has been bullied. Maybe you were. Maybe it was your best friend. Maybe it was because they’re gay. Or black. Or fat. Or Jewish. Or just because they were the wrong kid in the wrong school at the wrong time.
So the summer is winding down, kids are back to school, and another Minnesota State Fair has ended. For me, the fair was a true success – 4 visits (2 for work) and lots of new foods enjoyed. Continue Reading
Last year in Noshin’, I expressed a ton of JewFolk love for the Minnesota State Fair. With the 2011 Great Minnesota Get Together now upon us, I want to both reflect and look ahead to some good eats, great people watching, and all out fun.
First the reflection. I ended last year’s mid-fair report with a wish list for 2011. Here it is:

The wording of the Torah is important, and we are commanded to study it.
Tuesday was my grandfather’s first yahrziet– the anniversary of his death. He was a Holocaust survivor, a caretaker to his sick wife, and at the end of it all…an unwavering orthodox Jew. Reflecting on his life made me wonder:
The Midwest Tomato Fest does not have its origins in Italy, as one might think, and it doesn’t involve all the pizza one can eat, though I rather think it could be reinvented to include at least a little pizza….
Watching the footage of the myriad of couples legally marrying in New York State on Sunday was incredibly personally moving. I spent three years living and working in New York City when I was in school at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
