I was working in the guest services division of security for the Mall of America on Sept. 11, 2001. I had been employed at the largest mall in America since July, 1992. I assisted guests visiting the mall with questions, stroller and wheelchair rental, store information, and general “good will ambassador” for the Mall of America.The Mall of America is a fun place to visit. MOVIES | Actor Eddie Murphy to host 84th Academy Awards

Eddie Murphy has been tapped to host the 2012 Academy Awards, Oscars telecast producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer announced. This will be Murphy’s first hosting stint on the Oscars. Murphy is an Oscar nominee and has performed in movies, television, and the stage. “I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others,” said Murphy. “I’m looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year.” Continue Reading

Minnesotans in NYC: Even Starbucks is closed

Bloomington, Minnesota native, now resident of New York City, Lindsay Teed, said no one is out on the streets in her residential area in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Irene. Living in the Central Park West neighborhood, she said all the area stores are closed. “We couldn’t even get Starbucks today.” The city closed Central Park and no one is allowed to go into the Park. “Everyone is high on drama,” said Lindsay, 26. Minnesotans in NYC face Hurricane Irene

New York City prepares for Hurricane Irene. University of Minnesota student and Bloomington Minn. resident Kelley Teed, visiting her sister Lindsay in NYC, had her flight back to Minnesota cancelled. She was due to leave Sunday. Kelley walked around Wall Street today, where sections of the street were roped off as workers placed sandbags near the buildings. Continue Reading
