Guilty plea from one of RNC8

On August 27, Erik Oseland, one of the RNC 8 protestors charged for activities surrounding the 2008 Republican Convention, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit damage to property in the 3rd degree, a gross misdemeanor. He will serve his 91-day sentence in the Ramsey County Workhouse beginning on October 20. With credit for time served, and good behavior, it’s likely he’ll complete the sentence in 58 days.

New Pilanthrophy in D.C.

My daughter Maggie wants to see the tough parts of D.C. I drive the Prius down toward the Navy Yard. In front of us, a young black man enters the crosswalk. We lock our doors. He plucks a crushed plastic bottle from the pavement, tosses the trash in a can and a glance our way. He has smart eyes and an oval face. You could imagine him as the President of the United States. Wearing the uniform of the Ramsey County Sheriff ‘s Department, Chris Dugger looks every inch a deputy, close-cropped hair, jaw cop square. A cord runs from an earpiece to the walkie-talkie he has clipped to his left epaulette. If an important call comes while he is on the witness stand, he looks ready to go.
