Looking toward brighter days

Since December 14th, I have been carrying around a heavy heart. It seems some people want to talk about it and others avoid it at all cost. Facebook is equal parts silent and loud. But talk we must because I believe as former Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Katy Smith, does that we are indeed at a tipping point. Katy says this: Continue Reading

The temporary magic of snow

It wasn’t the wisest choice to set out on the most winter-like day of the year thus far, but no one could resist not being at the top of the hill of our farmette when winter made it’s first major appearance. Continue Reading

Tricks, treats, and pumpkin outreach

We carved pumpkins. It won’t surprise you to know that I was going to carve VOTE NO into mine. I went to work diligently, not paying much attention to what my clan was up to. Turning off tech — or not — for kids’ summer

My attempts at screen time limitations have not gone well. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Turn off the cable then they discover long lost movies under their bed or realize the library’s rental selection is not too bad. After I hid the I-pod, they found games on my smart phone I didn’t know existed. It seems the media world has conspired against me. Continue Reading
