2011 Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival

On Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, Minnesota January 8, 2011 – The temperature was around a crisp 10° Fahrenheit  (-12° C), on Saturday the 8th of January 2011. Unfortunately there was no wild chill of great proportions. Unfortunate in that kites were trying to be flown, and the movement of the air is the factor which allows fabric, frame, and string to launch airborne.

Make Better, Art from the Street

Make Better conducted an initiative to bring awareness of the people who are homeless. They held an open air exhibition and an art auction, using Twitter, at Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis from 4pm to 7pm Friday October 22, 2010. Minneapolis protest against FBI raids, Chicago grand jury

Protesters gathered outisde the FBI office in Minneapolis on October 5, the day that some targeted Minnesotans had been subpoenaed to appear before a Chicago grand jury that is conducting a secret investigation. All grand jury investigations are secret, with  the government prosecutor and grand jurors questioning witnesses, who are not allowed to have their lawyers present in the room.

Hundreds protest FBI raids in Minneapolis

Hundreds of people protested at the FBI office in Minneapolis on Monday, September 27. The FBI raided several sites in Chicago and Minneapolis on Friday, September 24. The citizens involved are political activists, and the raids have a semblance of being an attempt of intimidation and harassment. According to one woman who was counting heads at the demonstration, at least 590 people were present. Similar protests were scheduled in 19 cities. [Slide show below.]

Carifest 2010 jams the street again

The third weekend in July and Carnival makes an appearance in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Carifest is a family style Caribbean celebration with music and dancing, and food booths to complete the flavor. The roots are the celebrations held in the islands throughout the Caribbean.

A backyard event in an Open Field

I changed my routine since the Walker Art Center opened their Open Field invitation. I now try to bike directly past the Art Center when I am anywhere in the vicinity. I witnessed my first gathering Thursday June 24, 2010. I do believe rain diminished outdoor participation in many events, including my own. As I understand the concept is that the Walker is inviting the public to come and play. Continue Reading

An aimless ride and a few with intent

An out-of-town friend managed to get me out on a bike ride last week. A ride that did not have any set destination. That is not how I generally operate. I enjoy riding but I usually have a goal in mind to play tag with, normally a band playing in an outdoor setting.
