I read about a NASA Downlink happening at Base Camp near the Airport. So after finding more information through an Internet search, I bicycled out to the Base Camp facility on August 9 th, 2011. The event was cosponsored by NASA, The Works (a “hands-on, minds-on” museum), The Minneapolis Planetarium (a far out group), and the Northern Star Council (a scouting organization and the hosts of the Base Camp facility). It proved to be a wonderful time. I was exhausted when I got home, -from being around all that youthful energy. It was fun to see the exploring, inquisitive minds whirl around the activities.
some big gun radio technology
computers and projectors were well scattered throughout the Base Camp building
the crowd gathered, the stage was set,
the show’s directors waited for show time, all the procedures were checked off
and the show commenced
yet with all the High Tech, a pen on paper still played a part
The session with the astronauts was all very good and “an event”, to be sure; but afterwards the activities began!
building battery powered motors, constructing model structures from string and straws
glider patterns and plans, testing basic electric circuits
earth bound playground toys, and aviation flight simulations
space explorers, will venture on
but . . .
R O B O T S !
Robots, what fun
with tethered drive and command and web camera feedback
I found a serious need
I had a very fun time at camp, and no sun burn
