The St. Anthony Park Community Council is looking for artists, craftspeople, entrepreneurs and other creative types to pop in to 2401 University Ave. this summer for a week or maybe two.
The council is leasing the storefront next to The Edge coffeshop and is calling it the St. Anthony Park Pop-Up Shop. The plan is to allow groups to rent the space week by week to use for art shows or other events.
The 1,200-square-foot building includes a back workroom, a basement, bathroom, and front and back entrances. There is no off-street parking, but there is parking available on side streets.
Rent is $250 a week for one to two weeks and $225 a week for three to four weeks. The rent includes utilities and general liability insurance. A refundable security deposit is also required.
The project is a joint effort between the St. Anthony Park Community Council and Starling, a group working to promote vitality along St. Paul’s University Avenue by matching property owners who have vacant storefronts and prospective tenants for short-term leases. The space is currently being used by Art Du Nord’s Pop-Up Gallery through May 19. The arts group will open a show this Friday, April 27, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. The show will run for four weeks and feature visual art ranging from prints and works on paper to contemporary paintings, furniture and design products—all by artists and designers living and working in and around Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The storefront will be available to rent from June through August. Rental weeks will begin on a Tuesday and extend through Monday, giving you a chance to work up toward the weekend.
