Minneapolis has long been tagged as a city that erases its history, but city officials are planning to do something about it. They decided to create interpretive centers where forgotten parts of the city past could be recreated and interpreted.

The city has hired the Journal of American Rocket Science to design the Fourth & Lake X-Rated District Interpretive Center to recapture the unique urban and lively character of south Minneapolis area’s once-notorious spot for X-rated shops. For many years 4th and East Lake Street was known for businesses purveying porno movie booths, dirty books, and accessory stores that existed at that location until they were displaced by well-intentioned revitalization programs.

In the proposed the Fourth & Lake X-Rated District Interpretive Center, visitors will be able to recapture the experience of former area patrons, as displays will authentically replicate the feeling of x-rated peep show film strips, digitally reproduced with grainy visual effects. Authentically-reproduced porno books will also be available for viewing, as will various displays of stimulating merchandise.

The Fourth & Lake X-Rated District Interpretive Center will be built at 4th Avenue and East Lake Street as soon as NRP funding is approved.
