According to a flyer titled Metro Transit Police are here for you: “The METRO Green Line will open in summer 2014, bringing light-rail transit to St. Paul. Metro Transit Police are ready to make this new service as safe as it is convenient.” Assuming the trains travel the entire length of the route without crashing at one the many busy intersections along the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKkE-YmzGNM, how convenient is a 50-minute, 11-mile ride from downtown St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis, or an hour or more ride from St. Paul to the airport or the megamall? If the 250,000 lb. trains rolling in the middle of University Avenue are convenient, I would hate to experience what the Transit Police are calling “safe.”
The Metro Transit Police are here for you flyer goes on to say: “When service begins, 22 additional (emphasis added) Metro Transit Police officers will be dedicated to patrolling the METRO Green Line.” 22 additional Metro Transit Police officers, dedicated to patrolling the 11-mile route, amounts to 2 new cops per route mile. That’s 22 NEW cops, in addition to the Metro Transit, St. Paul, Minneapolis and U of M cops already patrolling the 11-mile route. If you thought the police presence at the RNC was great, you’re gonna love the action on the “Green Line.”
HOOYAH! The Brainpower State
