May 1st 2011 was chilly and overcast in weather, but jubilation was predominant in temperament during the MayDay Parade, Ceremony, and Festival.
Crows were the central theme for this, the 37th annual MayDay event, but inclusion of others is a main component of In the Heart Of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, so many visions were on exhibit. Symbolism and metaphor paraded down Bloomington Avenue and filled Powderhorn Park.
I have been documenting the creative process of a tiny fraction of the preparation for parade and ceremony. I know how very much I missed, and my images do not capture any of the fantastic sound that emanates from the talents that join MayDay. Look around the Internet and find other photographer and videographers who have captured performances of this extraordinary Festival. A start is at hobt.org. Here are a few of my images. Happy MayDay.
