I love going out for breakfast, but I’ve done it very rarely since the blessings of children. This has prevented me from hitting up Bonnie’s Cafe, which while open for lunch, seems best known for breakfast. Friday morning before my daughter’s soccer camp, I decided we should stop in for breakfast. If you don’t know, it’s attached to the Dubliner on the southeast corner of Cretin and University.
One does notice the green first. There are multiple shades of green throughout Bonnie’s. There is lime green, pale green, and I think some dark green. Retro is an over-used term, but that is the only accurate word I can use. I also love the two-person booths that for whatever reason are rarely seen anymore. They always seem like a more efficient use of space in smaller places.
The portions are large so we split the breakfast special of eggs, sausage, and two (enormous) buttermilk pancakes. I’m always pushing eggs on Jane, and she’s hit-or-miss at home, but she loved the scambled eggs here. And suffice it to say, the pancakes were demolished in record time.
