Jobs are all that matter

Minnesota ranks 10th in unemployment with an adjusted unemployment rate of 7 percent.* I like to think of it as being in the top ten states with the lowest unemployment rate. The lowest unemployment rate is in North Dakota, 3.7 percent, and the highest is Nevada where the unemployment rate is more than twice as high as ours at 14.4 percent. The national average is 9.6 percent. Continue Reading

Chocolate and October

I am not sure what happened to September but my calendar indicates that it is no more.  I won’t miss it. September wasn’t very good to me, and I am happy to put it behind me and move on. I am also excited about chocolate.

TCManWalking

TCManWalking is a Twitter name. His real name is Chris. I met him in person about a month ago. Chris is homeless. Up until very recently he was living in his car. He had a job and a home and enjoyed a kind of middle class lifestyle.

Fun at the fair

I went to the Minnesota State Fair last night, and I am a little slow getting my post out this morning because I kind of over did it. I ate things that a grown up probably should not eat.  I walked a few miles and took a lot of photos. There is nothing like the state fair. I tried to find one photo that sums it all up, but I couldn’t so I have two photos. Continue Reading

Tired of the heat?

We had another heat advisory this week — one of those soupy days with temperatures in the 90’s and dew points in the 70’s so that we get a heat index of 100 and something. We really shouldn’t complain about it.

It was -14 when I took this photo. I don’t miss the cold at all.

Dogs are people magnets

Beagles, and hounds in general, don’t take well to the command “heel.” They’re far more interested in where their very finely honed olfactory sense leads them, nose to ground and straining at the lead. Our Beagle-buddy Daisy is no exception. Continue Reading
