Forecast/Forward is a new programming series by Forecast featuring those working at the intersection of arts, culture, place and equity. We’re taking stories off the pages of our magazine Public Art Review and bringing them to you direct from leading practitioners and artists. This topic is featured in the 2020 Public Art Review Issue 59.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Kealoha Ferreira is an AAPI dance artist of Native Hawaiian and Filipino, Chinese ancestry, from Honolulu, Hawaii. She moved to Minnesota in 2011 and began working with Ananya Dance Theatre (ADT) in 2013. Her love for the company and its contemporary technique, Yorchha, took hold while she was a dance major at the University of MinnesotaIn 2018. Kealoha was named ADT’s Artistic Associate and Co-Leader of its St Paul home, the Shawngram Institute for Performance & Social Justice, where she teaches community classes, hosts events, and leads company rehearsals.

Olivia Levins Holden is a queer, mixed Boricua muralist, organizer, mixed media artist and arts educator, born and residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She devotes much of her time to facilitating and collaborating on murals. Her work translates community conversations and people’s history into collaborative public art, explores healing through expression of complexity, duality, and her own experience of multiple identities, lineages, languages and places. She strives to explore many ways the arts can tell our stories, plant seeds, and combat toxic narratives and decolonize through truth-telling.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Candida Gonzalez is a Puerto Rican native of South Minneapolis. She is passionate about education, community engagement through the arts and equitable arts access. She approaches her work by centering at the intersection of art, activism, healing and personal/community empowerment and is deeply invested in the concept of using art and community design as tools to wage love and healing. Candida is a member of the Forecast consulting team and leads Forecast Making It Public workshops across the country.

ABOUT THE VENUE
Ananya Dance Theatre // Shawngram Institute for Performance & Social Justice is the leading creator of Contemporary Indian Dance in the global arts and social justice movement. Invoking the work and dreams of women of color, we radically reframe the ground on which we dance, inspiring our audiences through visual and emotional engagement.
