ARTIFY is now accepting Proposals from local Artists and Creative thinkers!
ACCEPTING ARTIST PROPOSALS NOW THROUGH AUG 28th, 2013 for St. Paul Open Streets!
Artify is seeking local artists who live, work and play in the Hamline-Midway area to propose creative activities to perform, conduct, implement, and share at the first St. Paul Open Streets event on Sunday September 15th, 2013 at Hamline Station located at 1333 University Ave. W., St Paul, MN.
Theme: “Home is.” — (What makes a place feel like home? . a neighborhood? . a community?”)
St. Paul Open Streets bring together families, neighbors and friends to mingle, recreate, dine, play and shop in their community in a safe, car-free environment. This is not a race. Participants can explore the street that is open only to foot, bicycle and skate traffic. In addition to bicycling, walking and skating, there are programmed recreational activities for all ages along the street. Some of these activities might include yoga, zumba, games and dance lessons. There will also be musical performances and classes on bike safety and repair.
During St. Paul Open Streets, Artify activities will primarily take place outdoors in the parking lot. We imagine a festive, family-friendly atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, learns about placemaking, sees what can be done using the arts to revive this lot on the Avenue.
Artists may propose one or more activities in the categories listed. Activities may be something you do regularly, have done in the past, or brand spanking new. Other artists and/or volunteers may be involved in implementing activity (up to you). All artist-led activities will be outdoors, without a stage. Stage will only be provided for performances.

About Artify:
Artify is a project that seeks to bring the arts to Hamline Station and create placemaking through connecting community, Arts and local resources on the 1300th block of University Avenue. The site is located on the north side of University Avenue between Hamline and Syndicate in St. Paul on the LRT corridor. Over the course of 2013 through April 2014, Artify Hamline Station will engage local artists to create and share on the site and foster a sense of place, thus placemaking. The theme will focus on the re-interpretations of home; “Home is…” what makes a place feel like home? After the project period, PPL (Project for Pride in Living) in partnership with Excelsior Bay Partners (retail component), will develop approximately 108 rental units on this site, a place that many will then call “home.” We are currently seeking individuals to potentially contribute and organize to “Share, Inspire, Create” around the theme of “Home.” If this sounds of interest to you, submit your contact information and how you would like to engage with Artify Hamline Station, contact oskar.ly@ppl-inc.org. Artify Hamline Station project is supported by Irrigate, an initiative of Springboard for the Arts, Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the City of Saint Paul and by Project for Pride in Living.
