Diego and Danny have been working to register voters with Minnesota SOL (Strengthening Our Lives).
Diego is fourteen years old. • I never thought I could go up to strangers and engage them in conversation. However, for the past few months that is exactly what I have been doing. Working at Minnesota SOL, I have come to enjoy meeting new people and gauging their responses when I ask them if they are registered. My friends and I have started making a game of it. We try and figure out before we talk to a person if they are civically engaged or not. Most of the time I am right, but there have been a few surprises.
Danny is seventeen years old. • Once I started working with Minnesota SOL, I started to understand that everything is political. The funny thing is that my family doesn’t understand why I have changed. I started watching the debates and took an interest in the “bailout.” My family didn’t want to get involved in politics and neither did my friends. So far, I have registered all of them that are eligible to vote and I keep on reminding them how important it is. I am too young to vote this year, so I am going to make sure that my family and friends be my vote!
