Target says boycotts did not hurt its bottom line

In an interview with the magazine Advertising Age, a Target Corp spokesperson claimed that this summer’s boycotts did not dent its profits, even though they helped bring national attention to Target’s donations to MN Forward, a Political Action Committee that exclusively supports anti-LGBT GOP candidate Tom Emmer.

“Target Exec VP-Chief Marketing Officer Michael R. Francis said the protests and boycotts appear to have had a ‘negligible impact,’ given sales for July and August were in line with expectations. Still, the retailer is taking the situation seriously,” the magazine wrote on Thursday.

Target recently took a hit from the Human Rights Campaign, seeing its score on the Corporate Equality Index drop for the first time in many years as a result of its donations.
