Mayor Coleman is endorsed by the DFL! OK, no surprise, since there are no DFL opponents and even other outside candidates are hard to find. However, it is good to have the mayor lead a strong campaign in an off-year election.
The real race was among the school board candidates. Small numbers means this is a race to motivate supporters to turn out. The difference then has to be a phone persuasion race to persuade the regular DFL attendees. Since there are three votes possible, the race was not negative.
The three endorsed candidates are Chue Vue and the incumbents, Jean O’Connell and John Brodrick. They were endorsed on the first, second, and third ballots, respectively.
This is one of those cases that the people not endorsed were thought highly of by everyone. Of course running in a multiple vote race may have helped reduce the negativity. So while the DFL school board candidates we have are awesome, let me thank the three outstanding candidates that were not picked:
Sarah Lechowich: Sarah’s people were smart and loyal. I recall one person in complete puzzlement asking me why Sara was not more popular. Sarah was articulate, intelligent, passionate and poised. The leas and colors of her campaign set her people out from others.
David Martinez: David’s presentation has the most compassionate compelling speeches. The young boy who said “Vote for David” was the best speech of the day. The standing ovation that David received when withdrawing was strong and heartfelt.
Luis Ortega: People want both resume and issues, and Luis focused just on resume. From facebook to the floor, he had the best persuasive people working for him.
