Real estate is local but the federal government shut down has an impact on home sales. I had one closing delayed because the lender was unable to verify social security numbers through the social security administration. Sometimes home buyers need IRS transcripts in order to get approval for home loans and those are not currently available either.
On FHA loans a “case number” is needed from FHA before the loan can receive final approval and those numbers are not being issued because the Federal Housing Authority is closed.
There is a trickle down affect from all of this as well. Can I really count on having an income if my home sales don’t close? Without an income how do I buy food?
Potential home buyers who are Federal employees will not be buying homes and have stopped looking.
These are all minor problems compared with the problems people who use services like the head start program are facing.
I used to believe that the whole point of a democratic form of government is that instead of terrorism, rebellion or oppression we solve our problems by voting and once the votes are counted we o with the majority and move on.
Congress still gets paid and of course they all have health insurance. If we need to close the government to get a law repealed why the Affordable Health Care Act?
Since when do we shut down the government to change laws? Is that really how democracy should work? We the people pay taxes but our government shuts down? Isn’t there some other way to change laws? Why do way pay taxes to a government that does not care enough about it’s citizens to stay opened and serve them?
If you just bought or sold a home but have not yet closed don’t get too attached to your closing date.
