Just when you think spring will never come, gardening groups and farmers markets start up, and perhaps give us hope to think that we may have finally seen the last snow flakes for the season. Starting this weekend, here’s a list of farmers market openings, seed giveaways and more to start the season.
Local Food Resource Hubs
Gardening Matters started these hubs to help people grow their own food. Members receive seeds, seedlings, inexpensive classes, discounts on gardening materials etc. The cost of membership is $10 per household. Community Gardens may become members for $30.
The first distribution of seeds and plants is Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at three locations:

Frogtown Gardens Community Bean Feed

Join the “green beaning of St Paul” and join neighbors for the Community Bean Feed, hosted by Frogtown Gardens and Youth Farm & Market Project. Organizers say to “come hungry and ready for a delicious meal.” Bean seeds will be available for take-out, to plant at home.

Kingfield Farmers Market opens with two locations this year:

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market will open June 4, but a taste of the market comes earlier, with the annual Community Meeting on May 7th, 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Boniface Church, 7th and University Ave NE in Minneapolis.
