A Springboard for the Arts study finds that Minnesota artists are twice as likely as the general public to be uninsured. Enter: Dr. Sam.
A painter and physician, Dr. Sam Willis has for two years beenworking to provide affordable, creative approaches to health care for artists and others who are priced out of the market.

He offers a monthly membership for $60 a month, with a $36 per fee visit, and expects to have 500 members; if that isn’t what you’re looking for, office visits for non-members are $100. (Pre-existing conditions aren’t a problem.) He even, on occasion, barters services for art, as he did for photographer Michael Shapiro, who traded a photo for five office visits.
