The Standish and Ericsson neighborhoods are fortunate to have a great neighborhood library, Roosevelt Library (4026 28th Ave. S.), right here in the community. The recent renovation updated technology and expanded space for library patrons. Hennepin County’s investment in Roosevelt Library and our community is greatly appreciated.
Hennepin County recently expanded hours for a number of libraries throughout its system. Now most libraries in Minneapolis are open six days a week. Roosevelt, however, continues to be open only three days a week. In the past few months, community members who are disappointed that Roosevelt did not receive additional hours have reached out to the Standish-Ericsson Neighborhood Association (SENA) for help.
The SENA Board knows that Roosevelt Library is a tremendous asset to our community and wants to actively support it. SENA is advocating for increased hours at Roosevelt Library in several ways.
SENA is strengthening its relationship with the advocacy group “Friends of the Roosevelt Library.” The group, which formed prior to the re-opening last year, is a volunteer-run, independent organization with a mission to support the Roosevelt Library. SENA encourages all those interested to join the Friends of Roosevelt Library, support its quarterly book sales, and participate in its sponsored events. Find out more at http://www.supporthclib.org/group/roosevelt-library/ and https://www.facebook.com/RooseveltFriends
SENA is also reaching out to our elected officials, both Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and Minneapolis Council Member Andrew Johnson. Both are receptive to expanding hours but would be even more persuaded by your opinions as well. Please see their contact information below and let them know what you think.
Finally, SENA and the Roosevelt Friends are collecting information through a survey. The survey can be filled out online at www.standish-ericsson.org or get a copy at the library, fill it out, and then submit it at the front desk. And you can always contact SENA to give your input as well.
Contact these folks to let them know you support expanded hours for Roosevelt Library!

Of course, one of the best ways we can all help Roosevelt Library is to use the library! To help plan for hours of operation, Hennepin County monitors the use of the libraries by reviewing circulation, book requests, use of computers, program participation, and other patron events. Just by continuing to use Roosevelt, you can influence future hours of operation.
