The first Noche de Paz (Night of Peace) celebration will take place in Powderhorn Park on Sunday, February 13. Inspired by the December 1st Peace in Powderhorn event that followed violent incidents in the neighborhood, organizers say they want to celebrate life and unity in Powderhorn all the time, not just in response to something bad happening.
Billed as a community event “to promote a peaceful atmosphere for all families and neighbors in Powderhorn,” the event will feature puppets, bonfires, and candle-light walks. Hot beverages, soup and bread will be provided; attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and to bring a bowl and spoon for their soup.
The event was organized by Silvia Perez Sanchez, recipient of a Women’s Press Changemaker Award, and other leaders of Mujeres en Accion y Poder (Women in Action and Power).
