Can’t wait for May Day to roll around? Here’s a preview — TWO slide shows of the work in progress, paint, people, and puppets under construction. All of the photos come to you courtesy of Alan Wilfahrt. Enjoy!
Now that the frigid temperatures have finally given way to something a little more spring-like, it’s time to start getting ready for this year’s May Day celebration. On Sunday, May 3, Bloomington Avenue will be overtaken by floats, dancers, music and people of all sorts for the annual May Day Parade. Starting at 1 pm at 25th Street, the parade will march down Bloomington to 34th St. and end in Powderhorn Park. There the festival will continue until dusk with even more dancing and music, along with canoe rides, food of all kinds, and more.
Can’t wait to witness the spectacle? The Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater is offering public workshops to help build and design creations for use in this year’s parade. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until April 30, stop by the theater to work on one of the dazzling floats or create something wholly original. Here’s your chance to show off your artistic side in front of the thousands of people who will line Bloomington. Don’t forget to wear paint clothes!
Heart of the Beast Workshops:
Saturdays 9-11 am and 1-3 pm
Tuesdays and Thursday 7-9 pm
