Jordan battles over community council continue

Burglary, fistfights and shouting matches mark the latest chapter in the Jordan Area Community Council’s struggles. The Daily Planet covered earlier chapters of the battle for control of JACC, as the board and then-executive director Jerry Moore engaged in verbal and legal battles. Daily Planet reporter Sheila Regan is working on a longer story about this week’s events, which will appear on Monday or Tuesday. We invite you to add information — send an e-mail with your actual name and phone number or contact information to editor@tcdailyplanet.net.

Here’s a brief chronology of this week’s events:

On Monday, January 12, 2009, the membership elected six new members to the Board of Directors. After the meeting, a verbal exchange between executive director Jerry Moore and community members and board members escalated, with punches thrown and police called.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in a contentious meeting, the board of directors voted to remove current board officers and elect new officers, and also to fire executive director Jerry Moore.

Sometime after the board meeting, and before morning, office records, equipment and computers were taken from the JACC office located at 2009 James Ave North. A police investigation is underway.

Both reporter Anna Pratt’s blog and Johnny Northside’s blog have eyewitness accounts of some of the action.

Today–Saturday–the new board will hold a press conference. More to come — watch for updates in the TC Daily Planet!
