by Nekessa Opoti • Some bad news, and then some good news. I will start with the bad. If you have read today’s headlines you will have seen that the national unemployment numbers are out. Over half a million Americans have lost their jobs in the last month!
Read here for a summary on the twin cities job market.
I realize that these numbers are not abstract– these are real people. So here on MinneAfrica and elsewhere we will try and share recession-related resources with our readers. And that would be the good news.
One of my friends who has been out of a job for over three months discovered VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) where she got enough groceries to last her a couple of weeks. Check them out. If you don’t need their services, see about volunteering with them. You will have to call (952-888-9616) in advance to make an appointment. Unfortunately VEAP does not serve the whole Twin Cities, but its your lucky day if you live in the following cities: Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and South Minneapolis (south of 50th Street and west of Cedar Avenue).
