Gov. Tim Pawlenty announces the launch of his Freedom First political action committee today. He’ll surely repeat, as he’s been telling everyone, that the PAC is not about him and his pursuit of the presidency. But the website for his new PAC suggests otherwise, starting with the web address that gets you there: timpawlenty.com.
Looking for signs that Freedom First is about Pawlenty and a presidential run is like shooting tea leaves in a barrel:
The logo says “Tim Pawlenty’s Freedom First PAC.”
The top headline in the box that lists “The Latest” is “Gov. Pawlenty Paves Way for a 2012 Run.”
A “Tim Pawlenty” of “Eagan, MN” offers the first quote under the “Freedom Means” banner.
“MEET TPAW” comes first, before “MISSION,” on the PAC’s menu bar.
The main page has two big images of Pawlenty, one for the video in which he says:
When I was growing up … I knew for sure that I lived in a country where if I was willing to work hard and study hard, there were no limits on what I could become. … The only limits on our opportunities are the reach of our own hopes and dreams. … This is an important time in America. The stakes are high and standing on the sidelines isn’t an option. I’m making a commitment to you to fight for our principles … If we work and stand together, there’s nothing we can’t do.
Here’s the video:
It looks as though Freedom First will avoid confusion with similarly named organizations and websites by sticking with its founder’s name as a web address. That’s probably just as well, since an extra “S” (freedomsfirst) would take would-be donors to messages like this:
DUE TO UNTRUE ALIGATIONS, THE SHUTTING DOWN OF OUR SITE AND THE LACK OF MONEY TO PAY FOR OUR EXPENCES WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO POSPONE OUR EVENT. WE WILL INFORM YOU WHEN WE FIND OUT OUR NEW DATE. WE WISH FREEDOMWORKS GOOD LUCK WITH THEIR MARCH IN DC ON 9/12.
