Five-fifths of the Brothers Grimm

by Erica Mauter • In addition to the 11-day Minnesota Fringe Festival event in August, the Minnesota Fringe Festival as an organization puts on a number of events throughout the year not directly related to the festival. One of those is the monthly Fringe Speakeasy, which is basically happy hour for Fringe junkies.

Another one of those non-festival events is Five-Fifths, an annual fundraiser in which five different performing arts groups put on their interpretation of a single script or concept.

The theme this year is Five-Fifths of the Brothers Grimm. The participating groups are: Ari Hoptman, 3 Sticks, Ferrari McSpeedy, Mad King Thomas, and the anonymous writers of FringeFamous.com. Nobody but the FringeFamous folks seem to know how exactly that is going to play out. All groups are actor types except for Mad King Thomas which is a dance group (a hilarious dance group).

When: Monday, May 4, 7:30 pm (doors at 7)
Where: Ritz Theater
Tickets: $35 in advance at fringefestival.org or call the Fringe office at 612.872.1212, $40 at the door

I’ve been meaning to go to this for a couple years running and I think/hope this year will finally be the year.

(Disclosure: I’m a freshly-minted member of the Minnesota Fringe Festival Board of Directors.)
