On March 9th, EMERGE announced that they won the Twin Cities IKEA Life Improvement Co-worker Challenge. The nationwide Challenge gives IKEA US co-workers the opportunity to nominate a local charity to win a $10,000 IKEA makeover of a space that helps to improve the lives of others in the local community. The winner is determined by the number of votes from community members and supporters.

EMERGE will be updating the Youth Room at Camden Apartments, their supportive housing unit in North Minneapolis that serves youth ages 5 – 12 whose families are overcoming chronic homelessness.

The kids were excited when they heard the news. “They were jumping around! They were so excited and cheering ‘woohoo!'” said Carla McPipe, Youth Coordinator. One of the kids asked, “Can we throw away EVERYTHING in here?” Another started making plans, “Can we get new tables, chairs, and books?!”

EMERGE is eager to get started on the updates and grateful to everyone who voted for their project.
