Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network plans “El Dia de los Immigrantes” festival on Sunday, August 24th at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2424 18th Avenue South, Minneapolis. MIFN’s festival follows the church’s 11:30 a.m. Spanish mass.

“This celebration has two patron saints connected to it: St. Martin De Porres, and St. Frances Cabrini,” says says Alondra Kiawitl Espejel, Communications Organizer for MIFN. “De Porres is the saint of social justice and Mother Cabrini is the saint of immigrants. We wish to honor their spirit of justice by sharing our stories, making the connection between the struggle for justice both inside and outside the faith community.”

Sunday’s celebration includes a raffle for a Surly Cross-Check Bike. This $1000, locally produced bicycle and grand prize is donated by Sunrise Cyclery.

“It’s beautiful,” Espejel sighs. “It’s a wonderful bicycle that a lucky someone will enjoy for many years to come.” She continues that families, neighbors and friends are welcome to join MIFN for games, good, healthy foods and live music. The festival begins at 1:00 p.m. and raffle tickets will be sold throughout the event. For more information call 651-287-0660 or visit MIFN’s web blog to learn more.
