Mark Quéripel and Brian Nelson, both of whom hold architecture degrees from the University of Minnesota, just landed an EcoHome Design Award for this modest domicile in Colorado’s Phantom Canyon Nature Preserve. As you can see, the homeowners really took one for the team and sacrificed comfort for conscience.
“The careful siting of this home impressed the judges so much,” writes Jennifer Goodman in EcoHome magazine, “they said it appears to be part of the landscape. They also were wowed by the beautifully crafted timber frame/SIPs hybrid construction and the home’s many locally sourced materials, including beetle-kill pine flooring, reclaimed concrete tile roofing, locally quarried stone siding, and flagstone and tile countertops.” The total cost has been discreetly withheld.
