A night of door knocking in Longfellow took an unexpected turn for Ward 12 City Council candidate Andrew Johnson last Thursday.
Johnson told Fox9 News that as he was parking his car, he heard a woman screaming for help from a moving car. He and two campaign volunteers chased the car for several blocks. Another driver, Jim, told the news station that he saw the woman nearly falling out of the speeding car from the passenger seat. The driver finally stopped at E 49th St and S 41st Ave where the woman escaped from the car. Andrew and Jim used their cars to block the victim, and the driver took off.
As a result of this experience, Johnson says that he is focusing his campaign on domestic violence education and prevention. He commented, “It just shows how much more work we have to do.”
