WHAT: Sandcastle’s 2nd Annual Wiener Dog Race, in which daschunds race against each other and a man in a hot dog suit
WHEN: Labor Day Monday, September 1st at 1:00 PM (registration ends at noon)
Bark your calendars, SWDers: Sandcastle’s 2nd annual Wiener Dog Race is back! Last year, two wieners competed alongside a human dressed as a hot dog (who raced in a potato sack to even the odds). Slowed down by his costume and hindered by the potato sack, Sandcastle’s chef Doug Flicker, came in second. This year, Sandcastle is looking to add more dogs and more heats to the race: 3 – 4 dogs will race at a time, with the dog with the fastest overall time taking top honors. Plus, it’s rumored that Chef Doug may make a repeat appearance — as a hot dog.
Want to see your dog in the race? You can register at Sandcastle on Labor Day or register by email anytime: include the name of the event (i.e., Wiener Dog Race), your phone number, email address, and parent/guardian’s name if you’re under 18. The race takes place on Monday, September 1 at 1pm (registration ends at noon). The top dog wins a Sandcastle gift card for $25 and a Sidewalk Dog “If I Pee On It, It’s Mine” doggie bandana. Other prizes possible, but we’re building suspense around what those might be.
Don’t have a wiener dog? Have no fear – come watch the excitement anyway! This is going to be the most adorable race you’ve ever seen. Plus, Sandcastle is hosting tons of other activities this Labor Day Weekend, including live music, sandcastle-making contests (appropriate, no?), and ice cream-eating contests. Sign us right up!
