Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and at least five Minneapolis City Council Members and two Hennepin County Commissioners rode through the rain on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 8. Four rides that started in different parts of the city ended up on the plaza between City Hall and the Hennepin County Government Center for a gathering that included information tents and speeches (at the rotunda in City Hall).
At the gathering, Mayor Hodges read a proclamation naming May 8 “James Oberstar Day in Minneapolis,” in recognition of the former Congressman’s work to promote cycling and funding for bicycle infrustructure. The Bike to Work day event is one of 150 events scheduled for Minneapolis Bike Walk Week.
Here’s a look at the event and one of the rides.
