This appears to be the Weekend of 2nd Annual Events in Corocran neighborhood, with the 2nd Annual Community Sings at Corcoran Park and residents Re-Painting the Pavement at the park’s southwest intersection on Saturday.
The singing event is led by Bret Hesla & Mary Preus of Minnesota Community Sings, an organization dedicated to building community by through song, with guest songleader Antonio Machado. Community sings were popular during the early twentieth century, as thousands of people gathered in Minneapolis parks and vied for the honor of being judged the best singing park in the city.
Promoters note that Corcoran Park was voted “‘Minneapolis Best Singing Park’ by unbiased Corcoran residents just last month.” I can’t speak to the issue of how “unbiased” those residents may have been, but I can tell you from reports I heard of last year’s event that folks had a seriously good time!
