Blackbird Café is coming to 38th and Nicollet, occupying the corner storefront in a building that has been mostly vacant since the Lander Group’s proposed “38”, a mixed use project with eco-friendly condos, went the way of so many other projects on the drawing board in 2005. The Aliveness Project is constructing a new home in the adjacent storefront, four office tenants occupy the second floor, and five residential units are planned in an addition to the building.
A gathering today celebrated Blackbird as the 1,000th recipient of a 2% interest loan from the city to help small businesses. Owners Gail Mollner and Chris Stevens thanked the restaurant community for rallying behind them after a fire destroyed their restaurant on west 50th Street last winter.
