Some summertime heat and this slug settled in on reading stillness. Only four years after first published, I finally finished the last of the Harry Potter stories, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Staying current with popular culture is not a strong point of my personality but I am not completely out of it.
The three shoots of purple cabbage that I obtained while photographing the HOBT (Heart Of theBeast Theater) MayDay sprout project got placed into the ground along with two tomato plants. I seem to see less rabbits around, since the fox family stopped off a few weeks back, but sill I erected a wire fence around the tiny plot. It has probably been six years or more since I planted any tomato plants, and I have never had a cabbage patch. But little sprouts can lead to larger things, or so the story goes.
I made another move that I haven’t done in years, in that I ventured out for a small part of an all-night art event called Northern Spark. From sundown Saturday June 4th until sunrise June 5th, artists were holding events in six locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The warm weather encouraged me to venture out on a Saturday evening around 8:30 and I shuffled around the Minneapolis zones for almost four hours. I was not deeply impressed with any one event, but it was wonderful to see people out milling about on a warm summer’s night. I even biked through the crazy scene Downtown. The appeal of that booze fueled scene escapes me, but it is a remarkable gathering. I was more comfortable with the crowds that gathered with a more artistic bent, although there were certainly the same scene making fervor in all the crowds.

Father Hennepin Park, performance art and art installations, all a-jumble
I almost ventured to St. Paul and the Grand Old Days Sunday afternoon, but I had become engrossed in a Martha Grimes novel. I have stacks of books that this slug can burrow through, and I seem to be back into book worm mode. I lacked motivation also with a shortage of band names that rang a bell with me on the list of entertainers. Much the same with the Alive After Five that starts up today at Peavey Plaza, I lack a familiarity with many of the scheduled performers. But the price of free is a good inducement for checking out new and unfamiliar bands, and just pedaling there is good exercise. With a camera it can also provide images – as if I lack photos.

But I am reminded; Get out in the world. Enjoy yourself. Have fun, be safe and love one another.
