Art-A-Whirl is the time to meet your local artists, visit local studios and galleries, and enjoy restaurants and coffee shops clustered in the famous arts district in Northeast Minneapolis.
Twelve converted warehouse buildings housing hundreds of artist studios will throw their doors open to the public in a culture-filled weekend showcasing paintings, photography, pastels, sculptures, jewelry, fabric art, woodworking, metalworking, furniture, glass works and performance art. Dozens of private galleries, shops and churches will also participate.
This year Art-A-Whirl planners have decided to hand out “passports” that you can get punched when you visit various Art-A-Whirl locations. Get three punches on your passport and you can enter the raffle for some great art prizes. There will also be a silent auction, giving you a chance to bid on the works contributed by more than 100 Art-A-Whirl artists.
Great art deserves to be accompanied by great food, and Northeast has some of the best restaurants in Minneapolis. Have lunch at the Modern Café, Holyland, or The Anchor Fish & Chips , or buy your sandwich fixings at the Eastside Co-op. Have dinner at the Red Stag Supper Club, Erte, or The Sample Room.
