Perhaps it’s spending more time cooking at home that irritates me when I dine out and I think I can do a better job. And I’m an amateur cook.
The evening view is great at Vic’s. I enjoyed seeing the downtown Minneapolis skyline. The colors were like an impressionist painting with the night lights splattered by the rain.
I ordered the V Burger. I don’t know why I crave burgers every once in a while. I wanted a juicy think burger with a big slice of pickle, a couple lettuce leaves and tomatoes. That’s not much to ask for right? Instead, my burger came with a strangely sweet V sauce and shredded lettuce that fell everywhere. I tried to cover it with ketchup, but it just made it worse.
The party I was with also was not too impressed with their steaks. All felt that they could have done equally well at home. My nearby dinner companion’s fries were lukewarm (I know, I taste tasted for him). And to begin all of this we ordered the “Barrel of Monkeys” – a huge appetizer of chicken wings, but our waiter didn’t bring the sauce (which none of us knew accompanied our wings) until we were all nearly finished eating and puzzled by the lack of flavor. We were given the “oops, sorry…” but when people are dining out, that’s really not okay.
The saving grace is perhaps what other diners have already noted…they sell their wine to you at cost…so you’re able to get a bottle for perhaps the price of a glass of wine at other establishments.
I was also introduced to the parking ramp that has a tunnel directly to the St. Anthony Main riverside business. To my credit, I knew about the ramp…but never about this tunnel which I’m kicking myself for now because it always discouraged me from visiting this area in the winter. Now, after nearly a decade of living in Minneapolis, I finally got the memo.
