On Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, Minnesota January 8, 2011 – The temperature was around a crisp 10° Fahrenheit (-12° C), on Saturday the 8th of January 2011. Unfortunately there was no wild chill of great proportions. Unfortunate in that kites were trying to be flown, and the movement of the air is the factor which allows fabric, frame, and string to launch airborne.
Most souls did get their sails up but it was challenging, and lacked a consistency. But the crowds were merry and bright, with Hot Cider and Chocolate being popular for sweetness and warmth. Fish and horses entertained and stayed aloof, while volunteers lavished close attention to young charges in the Medallion Hunts and Snow Shoe treks.

The free Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival is a collaboration of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), The Minnesota Kite Society, The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR), Nicollet-East Harriet Business Association (NEHBA), Linden Hills Neighborhood COuncil (LHiNC), and wonderful support from the volunteers from the East Harriet Farmstead Neighborhood Association (EHFNA).
