Women in hardhats

We all know how hard it is to find a job in today’s economy. And yet businesses that do construction are often required to offer opportunities for groups that are under-represented in the industry. Before that can happen, people need training.

One organization trying to help in that regard is a North Minneapolis “Opportunities Industrialization Center,” also known as Summit Academy OIC, a nonprofit educational and vocational center that trains and finds employment for people from low-income areas, with an emphasis on helping women and minorities. They have a program called “Women Wear Hard Hats Too,” which aims to train women to enter the construction field. The program is about to start a new 20 week session.
