I’m pleased to introduce Morgan Halaska, the Twin Cities Daily Planet’s first-ever arts editorial intern. You’ll be seeing Morgan’s byline on our weekly Arts Orbit Radar newsletter, and over the course of the next few months I expect Morgan will also be helping us connect with our audience and spread the word about our stories via social media. She’s already been enormously helpful in editing and posting stories, and those of you who are now or who will be contributing to our arts coverage may be interacting with Morgan directly.
Morgan is an experienced writer and editor, with a degree from Marquette University and experience at METRO, Milkweed Editions, and the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She now lives in the Loring Park neighborhood of Minneapolis and has written some great pieces for us.
Since this is the first time we’ve had an intern specifically contributing to our arts coverage, the internship is a work in progress. If you’re interested in a Daily Planet internship, we’d like to hear from you! An arts internship like Morgan’s would be most appropriate and useful to someone with excellent writing and editing skills, looking for editing experience with an eye towards a long-run career as a writer and editor. If you’re qualified for and interested in such position, let me know. We also have writing interns—typically college students looking to gain experience and insight in journalism over the course of a semester. Those interns are supervised by Daily Planet editor Mary Turck, and you should contact Mary if you’re interested in that kind of an internship. All Daily Planet internships are unpaid, but we are flexible and can help you gain the experience you’re looking for.
We’re glad to have the chance to work with Morgan and our other great interns this fall. No doubt you’ll be seeing—and reading—more from them soon.
