Minneapolis Wi-Fi decision puts content focus on Daily Planet
The Minneapolis City Council on Friday is expected to approve the selection of U.S. Internet to build and operate the city’s proposed Wi-Fi network. The selection of the Minnetonka-based company makes it likely that Daily Planet content will be prominently featured on the Minneapolis Wireless Web site users will see when they log into the system. This should bring new readers to the Daily Planet and its many media partners once the system is operational next fall.
Design changes seek to enhance homepage
Regular readers of the Daily Planet will notice that we’ve done some dramatic tweaking of the site this week. The Photo Gallery has been moved to a more prominent location, we’ve added a fifth column for bloggers, and we’ve moved our foreign language links to a more logical location above the Community Newswire links. We hope these changes help make the Daily Planet more user-friendly, so you’ll visit more often. As always, if you have suggestions, feel free to pass them on to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks to Joe Shindelar and Pat Thompson at Triangle Park Creative for their great work.
Walk for Justice will raise money for Daily Planet
We’ve been talking up the September 17 Walk for Justice in recent weeks as a great cause and a great way to meet progressive-minded Minnesotans. But we’ve forgotten to mention that this event actually raises money to help fund the Daily Planet. So, your commitment to the Walk is translated into dollars for the Daily Planet. For more information, contact Cynthia Moothart at email@example.com or visit www.walkforjustice.org.
Volunteer to help at the fall forum
Our fall forum, Citizens and the Future of the News, featuring Lizz Winstead and Mark Crispin Miller, is scheduled for September 16 at Hamline University, and we could use a little help on the day of the event. Contact Becky Clawson at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re curious about how you can help. And to learn more about the forum, visit www.tcmediaalliance.org/future.php.
