Harvard publication takes note of the Daily Planet
The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, created in 1937 by the founder of the Milwaukee Journal, will be featuring an article about the Daily Planet and citizen journalism in the Winter issue of Nieman Reports, its quarterly journal.

Daily Planet bloggers undergo training and get to work
The New York–based Center for Independent Journalism held a training session for its nine Minnesota journalism fellows on Saturday, a group that included Hiiraan Online editor Abdi Aynte and Daily Planet managing editor Craig Cox. The daylong session, led by Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter Stephen Doig (now a professor at Arizona State University), focused on basic journalistic practices and ethics. A Sunday editorial meeting covered the specific beats each fellow would be tracking and established an editorial process for the three-month pilot project. Check out the Daily Planet every day for original reporting from Aynte and Cox as well as their political blogs.

Media partner recognized by labor organization
We send our congratulations out to one of our media partners, the Minneapolis Labor Review, which recently won the International Labor Communications Association’s second-place award for general excellence among U.S. and Canadian publications produced by state and local central labor organizations.

Tables available for media partners at the Walk for Justice
The Daily Planet is a sponsor of the upcoming Walk for Justice, which means that all our media partners will have an opportunity to display materials at the event, which is scheduled for September 17. This is a great opportunity for publications to reach out to readers and potential advertisers, so consider showing up for the event. For more information, contact Cynthia Moothart at cynthia@headwatersfoundation.org.

Volunteers needed to help at the fall forum
Our fall forum, Citizens and the Future of the News, featuring Lizz Winstead and Mark Crispin Miller, is scheduled for September 16 at Hamline University, and we could use a little help on the day of the event. Contact Becky Clawson at becky@tcdailyplanet.net if you’re curious about how you can help. And to learn more about the forum, visit www.tcmediaalliance.org/future.php.
