Fall forum’s coming up fast
TMCA’s fall forum, “Citizens and the Future of News,” is scheduled for 9:30-1:00 on Saturday, September 16, at Hamline University in St. Paul. The forum will look at the state of major mainstream news outlets, community-based news sources and emerging formats to explore how ordinary citizens are affecting the future of news. The event will feature a conversation with media critic and NYU professor Mark Crispin Miller and Lizz Winstead, co-creator of The Daily Show, as well as panel discussions on Citizens and the Twin Cities Mainstream Media and Citizens and Emerging News Media. Get this on your calendar now!

Watch for our new Daily Planet blogs
Beginning Monday, the Daily Planet’s front page will feature two new blogs, courtesy of the Center for Independent Media Center. Hiiraan Online editor and frequent Daily Planet contributor Abdirahman Aynte and Daily Planet managing editor Craig Cox have been selected by the Center for a three-month fellowship, during which they will create a blog for the Daily Planet and the Center’s “Minnesota Monitor Web site”:http://www.minnesotamonitor.com/magFront.do. This is the second state in which the Center for Independent Media has funded blogging fellowships. Earlier this year, the group launched the “Colorado Confidential Web site”:http://www.coloradoconfidential.com, where Colorado bloggers are currently publishing their work.
