Daily Planet a finalist for national journalism award
The Daily Planet has been named a finalist for the Knight-Batten Awards for Innovation in Journalism. Other finalists include Health News Review.org (University of Minnesota), Global Voices Online (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Transparent Newsroom (Spokane, Washington), IBISEYE.com (Sarasota, Florida), the Washington Post’s U.S. Congress Votes database (Washington, DC), and the Bakersfield Californian Social Media Platform. The winner will be announced September 18 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
Cable access show in the works
The Minneapolis Telecommunications Network (MTN) has invited the Daily Planet to host a live weekly television show on its public access network. MTN would provide production assistance and furnish a studio for the show, which could begin as early as September. Stay tuned for more on this in the weeks ahead.
High school journalists get a glimpse of the Daily Planet mission
Daily Planet managing editor Craig Cox on Sunday addressed the National Scholastic Press Association’s annual conference at the University of Minnesota. Participants from all over the country heard about the Daily Planet’s editorial mission and its commitment to citizen journalism.
