Veteran reporter joins TCMA board
Cynthia Moothart, a former reporter and editor at the Pioneer Press and In These Times magazine, has agreed to join the Twin Cities Media Alliance board of directors. Cynthia is currently working with the Headwaters Foundation and will bring great expertise in promotion and marketing as well as her journalism skills. Thanks to Cynthia for her commitment to the project.

Wanted: Business editor
We were sad to hear earlier this week that Daily Planet Business editor Benno Groeneveld would no longer be able to continue in that position. A longtime radio reporter for KFAI, Benno will be able to share his stories with Daily Planet readers via mp3 files, so he’ll continue to be a presence on the site. We thank Benno for all his great work over the past several months.

Meanwhile, if you have an interest in editing the Business section, contact Craig Cox at craig@tcdailyplanet.net.

Daily Planet TV?
Representatives from both the Minneapolis and St. Paul cable access television networks have expressed an interest in becoming media partners. We’ll be talking with them in the days ahead about ways to stream their content on the Daily Planet site.

Volunteers step up
Ten new volunteers have stepped forward in the past two weeks to help out with Daily Planet work. And if first impressions are any indication, we’ve attracted a crew of immensely talented and committed people. Most have a strong writing background and will be contributing stories to the site, but many are also experienced in promotion and marketing, as well. Thanks to all of those who have contacted us to get involved.

Kudos
Mike McIntee at Inside Minnesota Politics has been doing some great interviews on his site for several months now, but earlier this week we were pleased to see that he’d published a transcript of his podcast with congressional candidate Mike Erlandson. So now our readers can read the interview or listen to the podcast. Great work, Mike. . . . Environmental editor Jeremy Stahl has hooked the Daily Planet up with writers from the Sierra Club’s North Star Journal. Check out today’s piece on the Walk for Wind by Christopher Childs. . . . Carrie Mercer has a nice review of local writer Jack El-Hai’s new book, The Lobotomist, in the Books section. . . . Thanks to Rich Broderick for posting his interview with Raymond Baker and his profile of immigration attorney Laura Danielson. Both are pieces worth checking out. . . . We were pleased to be able to post Julie Miller’s compelling story from The Alley about the controversial land grab currently underway in the Phillips neighborhood. . . . And thanks to Gail Olson from the Northeaster for sharing her piece on the twister of 1941 that hit Northeast Minneapolis. . . . As always, thanks to everyone who has contributed their time an energy to help us out.
