As of Monday, Minneapolis had seen only one homicide since Jan. 1 — far less than the 11 incidents reported last year and 18 cases in 2007 at this time.

This continues a trend of falling violent crime rates, which have decreased 25 percent over a two year period, according to Minneapolis police department statistics.

Incidents of rape, robbery, burglary and auto theft are all down at least 20 percent over the last two years as well.

The largest crime rate drop came from auto thefts, which are down almost 40 percent.
