UnitedHealth’s McGuire second highest paid CEO in 2004

UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s CEO William McGuire was paid a total of $124.8 million in 2004, making him the second-highest earner among CEOs nationwide in 2004.

A survey by Corporate Library in Portland, Maine, said McGuire’s total compensation included base salary, bonuses, incentive payments, stock awards and exercised stock options.

Yahoo CEO Terry Semel was first on the list with pay of $230.6 million.

The average CEO received $5.74 million in 2004, up more than 30 percent from the previous year.

CEOs of companies in the S&P 500 Index averaged $11.71 million last year.
